Steeb the Yeti reigns over Trader Joe's Brookline on Beacon Street, Massachusetts — swinging cheerfully in his red scarf in front of a mural of the Green Line trolley (the 'C' branch of which literally runs right down Beacon Street). Yeti sightings around Boston are a real local legend: during the historic 2014–2015 winter — the snowiest in Boston's recorded history, with 110+ inches piled up — a mysterious figure in a full yeti costume started appearing all over town, posing in snowdrifts and shoveling out cars. The 'Boston Yeti' became a folk hero of that brutal winter, racking up viral photos and a beloved social-media following. Steeb feels like the friendly grocery-store cousin of that legend, smiling out from his Beacon St swing through every New England snowstorm.
