Walter the Blue Whale lives at Trader Joe’s Boston Seaport on Thomson Place — a perfect mascot for the location, since the store sits right on Boston’s harbor in the maritime Seaport district. Boston Harbor is a major whale-watching launch point: trips out to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary regularly spot humpbacks, finbacks, minkes, and the occasional endangered North Atlantic right whale. Walter himself is a stout dark-blue whale with a lighter blue belly, his TJ badge reading ‘WALTER — Crew Member,’ caught here resting atop a row of spice jars.
