An octopus in landlocked North Hollywood is itself a small surprise — but the name is a quiet nod to area history. In October 1887, J.B. Lankershim and eight other developers organized the Lankershim Ranch Land and Water Company, the syndicate whose 12,000-acre land purchase became modern North Hollywood and the surrounding San Fernando Valley. Ocho (Spanish for 'eight') brings the same number of arms to the job — which the crew swears is genuinely useful for restocking. Photo submitted by David G.
