A whole crew of squirrels at Trader Joe’s Northridge on Reseda Blvd — left to right: Theodore, Shirley, and Jiffy. All three are gray-and-cream with TJ crew badges, two of them clutching acorns. The choice is hyper-local: Northridge is the home of Cal State Northridge (CSUN), whose campus is famously overrun with eastern fox squirrels. They’re bold to the point of legend — known to chase students for lunches, ambush picnics, and stand their ground on the quad. The TJ versions are the friendly translation: instead of mugging you for your sandwich, they’ll point you toward the free-sample station.
